expensive gear death...
Down through the years I've had several people ask me about this photo. I can't remember if we posted it on FB at the time that it happened or what, but it's something folks remember. The story behind it is simple... we were shooting at Alluvial Fan in RMNP for a wedding and in the process of climbing a cliff Daniel snagged his lens case on his belt on a rock and tipped out this Nikon 80-200 lens into the waterfall. Of course we were in the middle of working with clients, so while our hearts dropped to our toes we laughingly swallowed that gut wrench and kept on going. If we had broken down right then and there over that loss (and it was a bit of a loss), how professional would that be? But you can imagine that when it was just the 2 of us on the way home from that wedding that we were pretty bummed.
It seems that we encounter this scenario often in life. Something hard happens and it socks us in the gut... we keep going. I've learned that it's important at some point to take inventory and ask yourself if you've processed that hurt. These are not the hards that knock you flat, these are the small ouches like this lens. They add up.... so it's good to check in with the heart and take stock... line up your broken lenses (which sadly we have literally done) and give it back into God's hands so He can set it right again.
