Creativity is Knowing the Creator

Mission

Welcome to our website!  We are glad you stopped by!  We're a family.  We're creative.  We love God and are on a unique journey of discovery, adventure and growth.  If you want to follow along, this is the place to come take a peek at the process.  Just remember... you have been forewarned, because it is a process and that means sometimes things look messy in the midst of creativity and progress.  So if you're squeemish... maybe you should look for a very clean and tidy Pinterest board!  But if you want to stick around to see what we're up to and all about, this is the place!  In truth, our mission is our family. The fact that we've chosen travel with our tribe and look for opportunities to serve Jesus through media wherever that takes us is secondary.  Just like a lot of you we are on a mission to raise great kids who can navigate our world, relationships, faith, and a whole lot of miscellaneous that you would never anticipate!

People = God's Masterpiece...

What do we find ourselves doing everywhere we go?  Well... we love to capture beauty. Predominantly for us, that has meant photographing people, because while breathtaking landscapes and all of nature is so very inspiring, we've noticed that the Creator of it all is inexplicably captivated by this beautiful mess of humanity.  Sometimes that can be hard to understand and sometimes it's the most obvious thing ever.  God loves people. All of us in our ridiculousness, beauty, pride, ugliness, brokenness...the whole tamale! So while we definitely love to document amazing places and the world around us (and you'll find a lot of that here on this site), we're quite keen to capture some God inspired moments with people everywhere we go.

Family + Adventure + Art + Travel = All for the Creator

The real story we have to tell is about how God has held our family together and has grown us while navigating the unseen twists and turns of exploring a creative, missional life.  What does it look like to be a family of 5 traveling the world, following God, trying new things and sometimes falling flat?  Well.... it's the creative process of becoming and being who God has made us to be.  It seems that we have quite the spectrum of creativity in our own little patch of life.  In our family we have a budding writer, a videographer/photographer, an artist/photographer, a young painter, and a stop-motion artist.  That makes for some very interesting family moments and a busy household!

This site is really our way of pulling all of our creative ventures as a family into one spot and inviting YOU to participate with us in the journey.  If that means just stopping by every now and again to see what we are up to collectively, great!  If you want to follow one of us more closely we've done our best to provide all the links to our various endeavors.  Hopefully you are encouraged and maybe a tad inspired before you leave here!

Daniel had to get up in the wee hours of the morning to capture this amazing moment in Prague, Czech Republic on the famous Charles Bridge.

History

Hmmmm.... let us explain.  No, there is too much, let us sum up.  We have a long and varied history that stretches back 40 some years and would most likely make you cry til your face was blotchy, laugh til your sides hurt and feel more than a small amount of pity for these crazy souls bearing the good Treat name. That said, we will spare you the long tirade of our history and instead toast our future!  To the future! Hazzah!

Ok, ok a little bit of history... how much time do you have?  Here is our generic and very bare bones history... ready? Daniel and I were married in Fort Collins, CO in 1996 and definitely thought we would be headed back to a country that had won our hearts early on, the Republic of Georgia, very shortly after our wedding.  But being newly weds trended into being newly broke and in the end we stayed in Fort Collins, CO for what turned out to be the next 15 years!  In 2001 we had our first son Alex and also went in on a big project! We decided to build a home in the foothills with Daniel's parents! 2002 brought us Ben only 16 months after Alex, and my love of coffee which has endured. In 2003 we started our photography business, VERGE. We photographed over 250 weddings from 2003-2010 and learned oh so much!! Then in 2010 we sold the business and in 2011 we sold our house!  After 10 years of a pretty stable and consistent life we were untethered completely and unbeknownst to us, about to start a season of "floating"!  In 2011 we went on a short 3 month missions trip through our church to Vsetín, Czech Republic.  It was a great experience for all of us and a perfect step into the bigger world for our kids.  2012 found us in Louisville, KY working for City on a Hill Productions where Daniel ventured farther into new waters as a videographer...adding this visual storytelling skill to his toolkit. Our time in Louisville ended up being shorter than we had anticipated and 2013 found us back in Colorado praying and seeking the next step.  From 2013 - 2016 we freelanced, worked random jobs, experienced loss, learned to lean into the Father more, did our best to guide our kids through some rough waters and prayed... a lot.  Then in the Fall of 2016 we stepped out of life in Colorado and set out for New Zealand. We spent the next 3 years (ish) in that beautiful land, first as students and then as media interns. It wasn’t seamless. 2017 saw us return to the States very unexpectedly to walk the valley of grief as we mourned the loss of Daniels mom. We were grateful to be able to return to New Zealand 6 months later and resume serving as media providers for Torchbearers International until early 2019. I have to note here that the season we spent in New Zealand was super rich with growth for us as a family. Not all the lessons learned there were easy, but God grew us up in amazing ways and we are forever grateful for the richness of that season. The Spring of 2019 found us back on familiar turf in Fort Collins, CO once again praying for direction and the path forward. (I’m guessing that at this point in this narrative you are getting the picture that there has been no straight and linear line on this journey of ours!!) Now here in the Spring of 2020 we are paused with the whole world in a time of uncertainty. It feels oddly familiar. At this moment in time Daniel has accepted a role with Nexus International and Wilderness Ministry Institute (WMI) as their Media Coordinator and we are taking steps forward in faith toward this partnership. We have a great excitement about this next leg of the journey! Since this has been the Reader’s Digest version of our history there is no way to convey all the ways that the past 23 years or so dovetail into serving with Nexus. If you want to know more, we’re here…we’d love to catch up and have a chat! Meanwhile, you’ll just have join us on this little cliffhanger and trust with us that the next chapter is gonna be good!
